We kick off the year with The Singing Shekel on October 12. This entertaining and wholly unique program, presented by Dr. Seth Ward, a founding member of the Colorado Hebrew Chorale, will showcase the four poets whose poetry appears on Israeli currency. The NIS 20, 50, 100 and 200 notes, each have a line from a poem on one side and a full text of another poem in micrography on the reverse side. All of the poems have been set to music. Dr. Ward will explore the poets, their poetry, and the links to Israeli music and culture. If you happen to have some Israeli paper money, bring it along, and plan to have a L'Chaim! in the Sukkah afterwards! Dr. Ward has been teaching and researching Jewish, Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies for four decades. He presented the Singing Shekel earlier this year at the annual North American Jewish Choral Festival. Dr. Ward’s wife Carol Kozak Ward is the director of the Colorado Hebrew Chorale.
