Temple Sinai Religious School's mission is to instill in our students and their families a love for Judaism and the Jewish way of life, to provide them with the tools for their spiritual journey, and to make meaning of the world around them through the lens of Reform Judaism.

For the 2021-22 school year we will return to in-person learning. We will continue to follow all local and CDC guidelines to assure the safety of our students and teachers.

Kindergarten - Third Grades
Kindergarten – Third grades will meet on Sunday mornings, 9:00 – 11:30 a.m. We will continue to utilize the ShalomLearning curriculum, an interactive, values-based curriculum that helps children develop a positive Jewish identity. Sunday mornings will also include a community worship service and enrichments including Music, Art and our new Windows to the World Maker Space.

Fourth - Sixth Grades
Fourth – Sixth grades will meet on Sunday mornings, 9:00 – 11:30 a.m. We will continue to utlize the ShalomLearning curriculum, an interactive, values-based curriculum that helps children delveop a positive Jewish identity. Sunday mornings will also include a community worship service.
Hebrew Program: Students in grades Four- Six participate in our Hebrew program. Our Hybrid Hebrew program is designed to teach students to decode Hebrew (putting together words and sounds fluidly). The program will have an in-person component during class on Sunday mornings with a weekly virtual session for individualized instruction.

Seventh Grade
In the year leading up to Bar/Bat Mitzvah, we have a special program to transition from our Religious School program to Sinai Teen Academy. There will be several aspects to the program:

Yachad - B’nei Mitzvah Family Education: parents will be invited to participate in three sessions with Rabbi Callman that focus on the life cycle event of becoming a Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
3 Sunday mornings, 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.

Jewish History: There will be eight Sunday sessions, 9:00 – 11:30 a.m. that will provide a review of Jewish history including biblical times to modern times. The review will also include learning about the Holocaust.

Shabbat Mornings: It is important for families to become comfortable with the Shabbat morning worship service at Temple Sinai. Families will be presented with six dates and will choose 3 in which to participate. Following the service there will be a short question and answer session. 3 Saturday morning, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Sinai Teen Academy: In January, Seventh grade will transition to our Sinai Teen Academy.

Temple Sinai Teen Academy (Grades Eight - Ten)
Temple Sinai Teen Academy will provide programming to teach teens that Judaism can be a part of your  everyday lives and that Judaism is a living, breathing religion that relates to everything you do as a teen and everything you will do as adults. We make every effort to teach teens how important it is to be proud Jews who value, honor and respect yourselves, each other, your community, and beyond.

Hebrew Learning - Grades 4-6

We will have a Hybrid Hebrew program. This will offer our families more flexibility and greater opportunity to participate in our Hebrew program. Students will have a 30 minute group session followed by a 15-20 minute individual session each week. There will also be an online portal to support learning in between sessions. Parents will be able to choose from several blocks in the late afternoon and evening during the week.

It is our goal that every child who attends Temple Sinai Religious School and participates in our Hebrew program will be able to decode Hebrew (putting together words and sounds fluidly). Our Hebrew curriculum is based around the siddur, meaning that students will be able to decode and chant prayers and understand the general meaning of the prayer and where it came from. They will also study holiday-specific prayers such as the Hanukkah blessings and the Four Questions. Students will put their learning into action through weekly Tefillah (prayer).
